HRD Ministry Plans to Conduct National Entrance Test for B.Ed

To improve the degrading quality of teaching in various government schools across the country, the HRD Ministry is planning to introduce a national level entrance test for admissions to B.Ed colleges. The ministry plans to hold a national level entrance test for B.Ed course, certification of B.Ed colleges, and exit test for all B.Ed graduates and a compulsory induction programme for government school teachers.

Reportedly, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has been asked to work on the models for conducting entrance and exit test and draft a module for the compulsory induction programme.

The ministry has taken this step in a bid to improve the quality of teaching and education as a whole. If the teachers are not well read, how can we expect our youth to learn and grow academically? Through the entrance test, deserving candidates will be selected. B.Ed should not be treated as the last resort for youngsters who do not qualify for other disciplines. An entrance test, hence, will ensure deserving candidates aspiring to become the torchbearers for the youth.

To ensure the country is producing quality teachers, all B.Ed colleges should be compulsorily certified. An exit test for all the graduates should be conducted to ensure the students have learnt well enough to spread their knowledge among their students.

Teachers recruited in government schools must be strictly evaluated. It must be ensured that the teachers are attending school regularly and taking classes sincerely. The ministry also plans to give one computer tablet to each government school through which teachers can mark their attendance.
