When you sit down with your books to study, do you often doze off while staring at the same words over and over again? Do you find staring at a blank wall more interesting than burying your nose in books? If yes, then you’re probably suffering from an acute case of boredom!

When you have to study for a long duration, you’re bound to feel drained. In the process, you not just lose interest, but you also sometimes forget everything that you had memorized.

While there is no alternative to studying hard, it can surely be made more interesting in a number of ways.

Here’s how you can stave off these impediments to make your attempt at studying more effective!

Set up the right atmosphere: Before you start studying, spend some time on creating the right environment. Make sure your study room is properly lit up as dim lighting can tire your eyes. Also, make sure the room temperature is neither too cold, leaving you shivering, nor too warm, lulling you off to sleep. Try and keep your room as tidy as you can.

A good night’s sleep: If you are not getting an adequate amount of sleep every night, you are more likely to phase out when you should be studying hard. You must get at least eight hours of sleep each night to ensure that you have the vigour to concentrate the next day.

Make studying a social activity: Sitting quietly in one corner and trying to concentrate on your exam preparation? Not such a good idea! Studying can be exciting and engaging if you do it as a group. Social interaction between study sessions can be a good way to boost your concentration levels.

Take frequent breaks: Sitting at one place for hours with your neck-deep in books is not the key to effective studying. You concentration level is more likely to dip if you do that. Instead, you should take short, but frequent breaks. You may use that time to take a stroll or a cup of coffee.

Make notes and research: When you are going through a particular chapter of your syllabus, use highlighters, make notes or gather additional information regarding that topic to increase your interest levels and create better memory cues.

Avoid mugging up: If you try to mug up the content of your syllabus without understanding it, the whole process can turn out be counter-productive. The best way and effective means of studying something is to understand the material and stick to gist learning.

Turn on the music: You may not enjoy studying, but you can make it interesting by turning on some music. If you feel like dozing off, play a number that you think can help you concentrate better and make your serious mood a bit lighter.

Switch Subjects: If you study the same subject for hours, there is a good chance that you will lose interest in studying after sometime. A good way to stick to your study routine is to change the subject after an hour.

Exercise: Another reason that you might be feeling bored is because your body’s activity level has gone down. If you exercise even for 30 minutes each day, it will keep your mind and body active. You will feel enthusiastic every time you sit down to study.

Think big: If you ever feel demotivated while studying, just think of your long-term goals like joining a reputed college. You can study without feeling tired and bored if you have a clear target in your head about what you intend to do after studying.
