Guest Session by Ms Padma Giridhar& Mr T R Giridhar at JIM, Indore

CSRA guest session on Corporate Social Responsibility was conducted at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore on October 26, 2013 by Ms Padma Giridhar& Mr T R Giridhar from Just Bespoke Advisory LLP.

The main purpose of the entire session was to catalyse the Future Entrepreneurs/Managers to think upon the Values that can be derived or lost by taking CSR initiatives. Both the guests spread a vast wave of knowledge among the thinking minds who were attending the session.

Ms Padma gave a brief introduction on the evolution of CSR followed by a set of standards which are increasingly being adopted by a large number of business houses. Being a Chartered Accountant, Ms Padma was able to effectively elaborate the legal requirements under CSR norms in India and the three main aspects of CSR i.e. Compliance, Implementation and Strategy. She also spoke on CSR panel provisions, panels for non-compliance in CSR, Role of CSR committee, eligible CSR activities along with the criteria for eligible companies to constitute a CSR committee.

The session was then carried out by Mr Giri, the partner of Ms. Padma at Just bespoke advisory LLP who also works as a senior trade and investment trader at the British Deputy High Commission in Mumbai. He spoke on the strategies made by the companies to pursue CSR, myths about CSR, skills and communication needed for CSR along with the companies following CSR trends before it became mandatory. He elaborated the concept of eligible CSR activities to the students by way of presenting a small case taken from a Protein supplement drink manufacturing Company which brought more clarity in understanding the Schedule VII for eligible activities for CSR. He further laid emphasis on the process of embedding CSR framework in Companies and the influences on CSR frameworks.

He also spoke on the reasons and procedure of deriving value by taking initiatives on CSR derivatives. Mr Giri winded up the session by sharing the design, implementation and mainstreaming involved in CSR framework. At the end, he answered the questions raised by the students which made the session very interactive and fruitful as well.
