First Ride In A Metro, Alone.

Till about two months ago, I had never travelled alone anywhere in my entire life. Even back in school, I had never gone ‘alone’ anywhere. 

Well, don’t gape. These things happen.

Anyhow, boards got over and I was found whiling away my days doing nothing in particular. That huge ‘Things-To-Do-After-Boards’ list was lost somewhere in my unkempt shelf and I was too lazy (lackadaisical, to be fancy) to look for it.

Then came tumbling, the wonderful opportunity of being a Campus Journalist. Now I had an office to go to! 

 

[Voice in my head: Pfft, office? You mean the place where you go to ONE day a week for a couple of hours and spend most of the time ‘chitchatting’?

Me:………]

 

Yeah, so I had to travel to this office. And I was a bit intimidated to travel alone, never having done it before. But my father refused to ferry me up and down so I didn’t particularly have a choice other than manning up. 

 

Enter: First Ride In A Metro, Alone.

I have to admit, I felt a little out of place standing in the middle of Rajiv Chowk with people brushing past me, going their way, as I stood there absolutely clueless about where I had to go! I somehow stumbled into the right train after asking a million people about it, and then stood in a corner with my purse in one hand and the metro token in another feeling like an outsider. I almost expected someone to tell me that I had done something wrong. After all, I wasn’t particularly aware of the ‘mannerisms’ of travelling in a metro, was I? 

Slowly, the initial jitters mellowed down and I started to relax.

Then, as is obvious, nothing out of the ordinary happened and I reached my destination with ease. Once I got off, I actually stood at the station for a minute or two to gloat in pride over the 'feat' I'd just accomplished!

 

In fact, I felt so ‘heroic’ that as soon as I reached home, I went to my younger cousin’s room and gave her a detailed version of my experience, and as expected, she was awed. 

Haha. I felt pretty cool.
