FIFA Fever Gripping Up!

I was wondering what I should blog about when it hit me, what is the one topic that somehow always manages to creep into our conversation these days? Something that for us Indians, turns Shakira into the 'new Meera' for her song is hummed so religiously by everybody, you could almost mistake it for a bhajan!

Catch my drift? Yes, I'm talking about the biggest football World Cup, FIFA! You may be someone who has absolutely no interest in football, but you will talk/hear about it because the FIFA fever is infectious. It's in the air you breathe. I, for instance, don't usually watch football. Now don't give me that expression of 'utter disbelief'. It's not a crime! Wait, it's not, right?
*Creases her brow*
Ha-ha!

Anyway, when FIFA takes it's round every four years, football does pique my interest. You know why? Because it's right in my face, all the time! It's the reason why I can smell popcorn from the kitchen at around midnight these days and have a bottle or two of cold drinks 'always' stocked in the refrigerator. I live with brothers. They sit right through the night to watch every match. So figure. 

And besides, I don't even have to physically watch the game to know what happened. I just have to open Facebook and I'm bombarded with an update every single minute. And I'm not even kidding; it's like my football loving friends turn into full-fledged virtual commentators. 
So much so that I know that Neymar was the star of the opening match when I don't even know what he looks like. 

Again with the expression of disbelief? It's okay! Breathe! 

At least I don't 'fake' an interest. Unlike so many others! But I don't mind them because frankly, it's quite hilarious to listen to them talk seriously about a match when until two days before FIFA started, they didn't even know what a ‘corner’ was! 

But what I really like about FIFA is that it is such a global thing. It sort of connects everyone in a way nothing else does. And its love is so contagious that I’m thinking I might just sit through the next match!
