NEW DELHI: A combination of an entrance test and class 12 marks will get aspirants into Delhi University’s Bachelors in Management Studies (BMS) course.
The course, started last year after merging courses in financial and investment analysis, business studies and business economics, is among the most popular in the university.
According to university officials, while an entrance test will be conducted for admission, it will have only 50% weightage. The remaining 50% will be based on the aspirant’s class 12 best of four percentage.
The university is expected to announce the details of the entrance exam on Tuesday. The exam is expected to be held in June.
The admission to BMS was done through an entrance test last year as well but it ran into controversy after the answers given in the answer key turned out to be incorrect. Aspirants then went to court and were granted relief later.
The university has done away with most entrance exams this year.
Admission to social work, English and journalism will all be conducted on the basis of class 12 marks.
A number of conflicting reports regarding the admission process for BMS had confused aspirants in the last two weeks.
“I am happy that we finally have an answer. I had been taking coaching classes for an entrance test ever since my board exams ended and I did not want that to go waste,” said Tanisha Singh, an aspirant.
The university has opened up options for those students who studied vocational courses in class 12, albeit with strict restrictions. Vocational students will have to deduct 10% from their maximum marks in each vocational subject while calculating their best of four percentage. This could mean a 30% cut for some aspirants.
Delhi University, meanwhile, will start its open days from Wednesday. Open days provide aspirants and their parents information about the admission process and other relevant information.
