Entrance Exam for Mandarin on July 5th 2013: Jamia Millia Islamia

Students interested to learn Mandarin, now have the opportunity to enroll themselves at Jamia Millia Islamia, where this course is offered by the Academy of International Studies. The programme will involve an intensive language teaching course for four hours per day, five days a week. This is inclusive of 2-5 hours per week of language lab training with essential audio-visual aids. 

Teaching hours would approximately be 360 hours in each semester. A native from Taiwan from the New Tsinghua University (NTHU) will be teaching Chinese and an Indian teacher along with. This course has been introduced hoping it gives students a certain grounding in the foreign language, which will help them pursue higher degrees (M.Phil/PhD) or seek appropriate employment opportunities. Being a new introduction, the number of seats are limited to 25 only.

Eligibility:

• Should have MA degree with a minimum of 55% marks.
• Should have aptitude and capability to learn foreign languages
• Should have some knowledge of, and interest in China

There will be an entrance test to segregate eligible students. The entrance test will be branched two ways, namely:

• Written test (60 marks) – Objective type (30 marks), two short notes (15 marks+15 marks)
• Interview (40 marks)

Objective type questions will test the general knowledge of the student and the short notes will test knowledge of China and Chinese affairs. The ability to write and comprehension of English will also be tested on the basis of these short notes.
