Relatable, isn’t it?
Our attitude towards the environment is a serious concern that has been in the limelight for many years now. We as responsible citizens and for the sake of what we owe to Mother Nature have somehow become more and more sensitive towards the leading threats that our environment is facing today. Be it global warming, excessive pollution, deforestation, biodiversity conservation and other similar issues, all are continuous reminders that require each one of us to become pro and active towards saving our environment.
National campaigns in recent times as well as in the past, including the Chipko Movement, Narmada Bachao Andolan, Silent Valley Project and the popular Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan etc. have contributed majorly to the above mentioned alarming issues of environmental concern. A large number of people were seen coming forward to show their support and interest in contributing to the noble cause.
Additionally, more than four decades ago, the concept of Earth Day originated in the United States. It was founded by John McConnell who first proposed the same at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco in 1969. Consequently, 22nd April 1970 was observed as the first Earth Day. However, it gained recognition and acceptance worldwide only in the year 1990.
All we can do is to pledge and make the world a better place!
