Teachers at the University of Delhi continue to oppose the biometric system of attendance for them. The teachers argue that most of the work they do is not taken into consideration for calculating the number of teaching hours. They believe most of their work cannot be done in the college because they do not have the required infrastructure. This includes the activities from correcting assignments to the research work.
In the past also, the teachers vehemently opposed the system when the university was keen to install biometric system of attendance in the year 2009.
The strong opposition is a result of a notice issued by the Department of Higher Education, to the twelve Delhi Government aided colleges asking them to implement this system. The Principals of these colleges are also required to submit a report within a week from the date when this notice was issued. The matter was also taken up by the Delhi High Court last year, when it asked the UGC (University Grants Commission) and the University to present their views.
