The University of Delhi launched a five year long sanitation drive on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 2014), as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Singh kicked off the campaign at 8.30 am from Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi.
As part of the campaign, DU will not just focus on cleanliness of the campus but will also emphasize on building toilets across all colleges especially for the disabled.
In order to initiate the cleanliness drive, the varsity joined hands with 100 MCD workers for a day to go around the campus along with the principals of all colleges and students.
What’s more, a 20-member committee has been formed for spreading awareness among the students about cleanliness, safety and hygiene.
All the principles of the colleges have been told to initiate the campaign and the university authorities will monitor the programme in three phases including that in 2015, 2022, 2019.
