DU Introduces 7 New Vocational Courses with 50 Seats Each

A good news for DU aspirants as the university has introduced 7 new vocational courses for which the registration process is to commence from September 1, 2022. These new courses will start in the four colleges under the DU and will include courses like Software Development, Printing Technology and Healthcare Management from this academic session onward.

Kalindi College will offer BVoc course in website designing and printing technology. Ramanujan College will offer BVoc courses in Software Development, Banking and Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector. Jesus and Mary college will offer BVoc courses in Retail Management, Healthcare Management and IT while the Maharaja Agrasen College will offer advanced diploma in TV programming and News Production.

These three years long BVoc courses (other than the one on offer at Maharaja Agrasen College) have already been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2014, breaking away from the regular courses of commerce, regular arts and science streams.UGC approved the BVoc courses after recognizing the need for vocational studies. While at the same time, the university Academic Council (AC) had given the nod to Jesus and Mary College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Kalindi College and Ramanujan College to introduce these courses in 2015.

The vocational course that Maharaja Agrasen College is to offer will be of two years Advanced Diploma Course while BVoc courses introduced at other colleges are of three years duration. The university is to announce the detailed schedule for the registration and admission to these courses anytime soon. Every course will have fifty seats in total admission for which is expected to begin from September 1, 2022.

UGC will be providing the financial assistance of up to INR 1.85 crore to each of the colleges which are approved to offer the BVoc program under National Skill Qualification Framework.
