A committee that was set up last year to streamline the admission process at Delhi University had proposed some changes that are likely to be implemented this year.
According to some of the proposals, candidates seeking admission in DU this year may have to restrict their applications to 10 colleges and six courses. These applicants may also not be allowed to switch colleges more than once.
The university’s administration has said that it would not permit colleges to give admissions to students beyond approved strength, reports a leading daily.
A member from the committee has also recommended that candidates coming in from other streams have a 2% higher cutoff.
The changes are expected to limit the chaos surrounding DU admissions. According to a south Delhi college principal, who was in the committee, the changes will soon be considered for implementation as they will shorten the admission process.
In the last two years, there were at least 10 cut-off lists for general category candidates seeking admission in DU. According to sources, the committee is keen to do away with this practice as well.
The members of the committee have also suggested that the cut-off for admission to DU should be based on an aggregate of best of three subjects, a move that may give advantage to candidates with vocational subjects.

The University currently provides cut-offs basis the aggregate in best-of-four subjects which includes one language. Another recommendation that has been made is to deduct 10 marks while calculating the best of four/three aggregates for students from vocational courses.
The proposed changes are likely to bring smiles to the faces of candidates with a gap year and those who wish to shift courses mid-term/semester.
As per another proposal, the committee wants to do away with the current system of denying admission to aspirants basis their age.
