DU Admissions 2013: Evening Colleges Find More Takers

The Delhi University admission process is in its last leg, with colleges under the varsity announcing a fourth cut-off list. However, colleges under DU have witnessed a surprising trend this year – there has been a sharp rise in the number of students opting for evening classes.

The trend has come as a surprise as DU had kept a lot of options open for students to take admission in day colleges, even after the fourth cut-off list.

Aspirants have explained that going for evening colleges given them flexibility of timings.

DU’s evening colleges conduct classes from late afternoon to evening, which, students claim, gives them ample time to pursue other courses and indulge in some activities.

“I attend chartered accountancy classes in the morning because of which I chose not to study from a regular day-college as it would have given me lesser time to prepare. The evening college timings suits me well. It gives me time to pursue my graduation and at the same time indulge myself in some other activity,” said Pulkit Sahni, a commerce applicant.

According to DU officials, evening colleges allow students to pursue either a job or training for MBA programmes. This freedom is not available to students of day colleges who have to attend classes from morning till the afternoon.

“There is no difference between the curriculum in a day college and an evening college. They are taught the same things in class, the exam pattern is the same as is the degree. Students just have this notion that they are at a disadvantage. They can pursue several other things during the day if they study in an evening college,” said a senior DU official.
