The evening of September 8th at GBU spectacled a flawless act by giving tribute to the martyr Captain Vikram Batra.
A play titled ‘Shershaah’ was performed in the auditorium 3 of Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida by the ‘Archana Theatre Group’, a tributary of the Dishayan Dramatics Club.
The play was intelligently scripted and directed by two third year students of the Mechanical Engineering branch, namely Arpit Kaushik and Ankit Sharma, who also played roles in the drama. The crew comprised of more than 20 students from all branches who laboriously worked for days to present this flawless act before the audience.
The play deeply intended to outline the proud life of Captain Vikram Batra, an Indian Army Officer, who, for his valour and bravery was awarded the Param Veer Chakra, India’s most prestigious gallantry award, at the mere age of 24. Captain Batra was killed in action on 7 July 1999 while clearing enemy positions on point 4875, one of the most difficult peaks to capture.
SHERSHAAH was indeed a hard nut to crack for the entire crew! It is always challenging to do justice to acts like these, for it takes relentless efforts by not one but many, and time which often flies fast. But for the Archana Theatre Group it seemed like plain sailing!
The execution of the act was exceptionally plausible, each character perfectly chosen. The dialogues were remarkably on point. The costumes, the smooth transitions between scenes and the use of external properties were the icing on the cake! The story created an emotional bond between the actors and the audience, which was a treat to the eye.
The gathering was blessed with the presence of the Vice Chancellor, esteemed dignitaries and faculties of the University who were also extremely delighted to see the talented youth progress at such a good pace.
Shershaah was indeed the best piece of drama GBU has ever witnessed!
