Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) Works Hard to Make Job Fair a Success

Acting as a bridge between job seekers and recruiters, the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) organized a first-of-its-kind job fair at the university last week.

About 20,000 students thronged the university sports complex where about 50 companies representing sectors such as IT, banking, management, finance and BPOs turned up to absorb fresh talent.

They included Genpact, Serco, Aegis, Secure Meters Limited, Convergys, Bajaj Capital, Axis Capital, Techlive Connect, Bharti Axa, Policy Bazar, Max Bupa, NIIT Limited and many more.

Organizing the job fair was a herculean task but it was the students’ union that put together a lot of effort over several months to make it possible. About 40 DUSU members started doing the groundwork for the fair a few months ago.

“We observed that the number of placements at the university’s Central Placement Cell were not too many. We contacted them and they supported us. We visited the colleges to take their feedback. We also spoke to the dean students’ welfare and got their support. While inviting the companies, we identified five companies from each sector,” says Arun Hooda, DUSU president.

Another reason was to give the students an idea about what they can expect in a job interview and how to prepare for it.

“We tried to reach out to as many students as possible through posters, hoardings, newspaper ads, Facebook, emails and messages. We even wrote to the colleges to put up notices on their premises and on their websites. About 700 students were placed over two days with the salary packages ranging from Rs. 1.6 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh per annum,” he says.
