Delhi University (DU) to restrict applications upto 10 Colleges

Students keen on taking admission in Delhi University this year may have to limit their applications to 10 colleges. They can apply upto six courses and can go for a change of college not more than once. The students who wish to switch to another stream might have the cut off increased by 2% for them.

These changes have been recommended by a committee which was set up by DU last year, in order to curb the hassles in the admission process faced then, one of the main causes of which was over admissions. Hence, DU admission system might also restrict the intake upto the stated limit.

These changes are most likely to be applied this year, unlike the previous year, when the students had the freedom to apply to as many colleges as they wished as long as they cleared the cut- offs. They could also change the colleges after the announcement of the other cut off lists, earlier.

The changes introduced might include a benefit for the students with vocational or elective subjects as the cut off could be based on the best of three subjects. This would be different from the already followed process of taking the aggregate of best of four subjects inclusive of a language as the base for cut off. Though, there might be a deduction of 10 marks while the calculation of their aggregate.

The students with a gap year also have some good news n store for them as the proposals made by the committee might discontinue the age restrictions. This would create no bar for students who have had a gap year and wish to apply.
