Eligibility
- LL. D Degree Programme
- Ph. D in Law from a recognized university with minimum 10 years of teaching experience and an exceptional academic achievement in the field of law.
- Ph. D Degree in Law
- LL. M Degree from a recognised university with a minimum grade of ‘B+’ or an aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent score.
- M. Phil in Law from a recognized university
- Ph. D Degree (Inter – disciplinary)
- Masters degree in any subject relevant to the field of research with a Bachelor’s degree in Law
- Master’s degree in any subject relevant to the research with established research credentials by way of publications
- Master’s degree in any subject relevant to the research with long term in depth practical experience in the area to be researched
- Passed the Company Secretary Examination exam conducted by the ICS in India and awarded Associate Membership of Institute (ACS)
- Passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and been awarded Membership of Institute of Chartered Accountants
- M. Phil degree in the relevant subject with excellent academic background
- MBL degree from NSLIU only
Duration
- 3 academic years – to be completed within a maximum period of 5 years
Note: failure to complete within the given time will lead to cancellation of registration and the student will have to re-register for the course if interested, which he/ she has to complete within one year from the date of re-registration.

The student has to submit the application along with the research proposal in about 10 to 12 pages in the stipulated time.
The research proposal should have:
Title
- Statement of the problem & background information on the subject
- Set of research questions along with hypothesis and methodology
- A Research Design containing chapters
Note: The research proposal for inter-disciplinary research should have components which have a bearing on legal theory, review and reform.
Selection Process
The candidates will be selected by the PG Council up on consideration of the report submitted by the panel on the presentation.
Course Work
- Admitted candidates are required to attend the ‘Research Methodology’ and computer application classes conducted by the university and to obtain a passing grade.
- Candidates should score at least 50% marks in each paper, failing which, they may be allowed another opportunity to reappear one or more times within 3 months of publication of results.
- The candidate will be allowed further research work only after completing the course work as stated above.
Besides this, the candidates are required to either offer a single credit course relating to their research work or assist the respective supervisor in teaching and evaluation of one of the trimester.
Ph. D/ LL. D in NSLIU
- Minimum of 3 presentations by each of the candidates for doctoral programmes: the first should provide details on the identified problem, research online and a set of research questions, proposed methodological approach besides survey of literature. Second will be at mid stage of research work that will explain an analyse the progress made by the researcher. The third and the final presentation will give details of the research findings, conclusions and suggestions.
- There should be a gap of 6 months in between the presentations.
- There will be 3 external panellists to evaluate the final presentation. The comments and suggestions of the experts will be consolidated and made available to the Supervisor for suitably advising the candidate.
