College of the Week: National Law University, Delhi

If you thought law was boring, the National Law University (NLU) will prove you wrong.

Spread over 15 acres, NLU offers its students a chance to study in a state-of-the-art campus with some of the best brains in the country. If that was not all, there are cultural activities to keep monotony away.

“There is never a dull moment in college since there is so much to do. Every day is about striking the perfect balance among cultural activities, projects, research work, studies, sports activities and self-study, says Sushant Singh, a student at the university.

A residential campus, NLU offers its students the comforts of home while they work on their studies. A set timetable, good accommodation and support from the faculty make studying here a wonderful experience. An average day at NLU begins sharp at 9 am and classes go on till 4 pm, after which students sit in the library and prepare for the next day's lecture. During classes, there is pin drop silence in the corridors and during tea and lunch breaks the place vibrates with lots of energy.

USP: Faculty and the location of the university are the key strengths of the institution Faculty: There are 30 faculty members Programmes: Besides their flagship programme, BA-LLB (hons), the university offers specialised LLM programmes, postgraduate diploma in some disciplines and PhDs. At present, there are 16 PhD scholars studying at the university.

IT Quotient: The campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The academic block, hostels and the library are all Wi-Fi zones offering uninterrupted speed to students. The college website gives out details regarding the programmes on offer, history of the college and excerpts of student life. The classrooms are equipped with e-stations, an LCD projector and display screen.

Infrastructure: The campus is equipped with modern facilities and world-class infrastructure. The University is fully residential and maintains separate residence for boys and girls. The halls of residence are provided with a common room each, indoor games, television and a state-of-the-art gymnasium. At present, the university has a volleyball court and a gymnasium in both the hostels. The university has a 24 hours medical room with a nurse. A doctor is also available on campus from 4pm to 6pm daily. For emergency, an ambulance has been stationed to take people to the nearby hospital.
The university has a fully airconditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of over 650 people. The auditorium is equipped with latest audio and visual facilities. The university building follows a universal design and offers access to all, including the physically disabled. There are ramps and lifts for students needing special support . A moot court room and a meeting hall, ATM and café are also a part of the campus infrastructure.

Clubs and societies: Since it is a new establishment, there are not many clubs yet.
However, students organise and participate in moot court competitions. There are groups of students that organise and facilitate various events in campus. There are also groups working on social outreach programmes.
Last year, the team from NLU won laurels at the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court event. This year as well, the team is excited about taking the global event by storm. The team has qualified the nationals and will now be one of the four teams representing India at the global forum.
