A day after it refused to declare cut-offs in five vocational courses, the College of Vocational Studies (CVS) was forced by its staff association to bow down and start admissions.
The college’s admission committee had decided to hold back its cut off for five management related vocational courses, demanding instead that the college be allowed to run the Bachelors in Business Studies.
The college had scrapped all its vocational courses after the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) last year. After the controversial programme was scrapped, the university and UGC had directed all colleges to go back to the courses and system they were following in 2012.
The admission committee of CVS, however, refused to comply on Monday night and did not come out with a cut-off list for the five courses, which included Materials Management, Management and Marketing of Insurance and Human Resource Management. CVS is one of the very few options for applicants who have studies vocational courses in class 12 as most other colleges refuse to admit students who have studied two or more vocational courses.

“The staff council met on Tuesday to discuss the issue and it was decided that we cannot go against the university’s order. Since the university has asked all colleges to go back to 2012, we will have to bring back the courses. A new course cannot be introduced all of a sudden. Requisite permissions are not in place,” said a teacher who did not want to be named.
The college principal had also criticized the admission committee’s decision to not come out with the list for the five courses.
“When the university has made it clear, we have no right to hold off the cut-offs. I had dissented against the decision,” said the principal, Inderjeet Dagar.
The college will admit applicants on Wednesday and Thursday.
