Changing equations post school

Having just exited school, few questions cross my mind. I wonder what changes after school. Do we change, in our perspectives or does the society’s attitude towards us change? Or does our character and behaviour undergo some metamorphism?

Changes do occur, that is for sure, but what? What can the college provide which the school couldn’t? After all, we have been at school for 14 long years where as college life would be at most for 7 years. What uniqueness does any college possess?

Seems bewildering, right? But I am sure these questions too would be in your mind as you make a move to another phase of your life. A close observation of college life seems to say that colleges rock. Not that I would completely agree to that, Nah, I love my school!  As far as I could find out, colleges symbolise freedom, provide more exposure and are more awesome than schools. The college’s atmosphere and infrastructure are more reaching out, opening up a vista of opportunities for holistic development. In school, we grow accustomed to the rules that bind us to a certain level. School basically provides us with the skills required to survive, it prepares us for the battle outside. College polishes our skills and helps us succeed, to win the battle.  So, is there really a huge difference between the two?

Back to the original question, what changes as we move forward from the secure environment of the school? According to me, our perspective makes all the difference. Having been given to understand that college is more freedom based, we tend to lose our balance. Often, the personality of an individual transcends to a new level; sometimes to a lower level. Having no one to exercise control often results in disasters.

Society’s attitude too determines how the transcending phase is, peaceful or violent. Too much of expectations or pressure can destroy a person, whereas overwhelming support may help him.

Whatever the case may be, remember, not much changes after school if you will it to be like that. The decision is absolutely yours, whether you choose to have your personality intact or you change is up to you. Decide wisely!  Your choice makes a difference; a great deal of difference.
