Central Universities to Have a Common Entrance Test

The Union Human Resource Development Ministry is thinking of introducing a common entrance test for all the central universities to end the cut-off system that majorly occurs in Delhi University.

Most central universities have their individual entrance examinations to offer admissions to candidates in their numerous programmes. However, various colleges in Delhi University declare unrealistic cut-offs that does not let deserving candidates take admission. Hundred percent cutoffs every year becomes a major setback for the ones scoring above 95 percent.

The proposed admission process will let everybody perform on an equal platform and be tested on the basis of their performance through the common entrance examination. The Centre is likely to call a meeting of all the Central University Vice-Chancellors to discuss the common test agenda on October 6, 2022.

Although the common entrance tests, have their own set of drawbacks. These entrance exams will be yet another burden on class 12th students, who have just given their boards examination. These entrances are competitive in nature and will need private coaching or they will need to go through drudgery of preparation. However, at the same time, these common entrance tests will help students to save themselves from the hassles of applying in different colleges in central universities, waiting for unrealistic scores in cutoffs. It will reduce the fierce competition for higher marks. These exams will also help students save their travelling expenses, as they will not need to visit different colleges seeking admission.

This proposal, if passed in the Centre, will help give a chance to all the deserving aspirants to get admission in their desired colleges, strictly based on their performance in the written examination.
