365 days and pop goes another year! Moving to the closure of this year we are taking a rear view at 2014 and it leaves us with mixed feelings. It made us see the highs and the lows as a nation and gave us the tears of both joy and pain. There have been quite a few outstanding moments this passing year and a number of personalities which made them possible.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been in the headlines ever since he was contesting for the seat this year. He stood tall and stout against Congress and it was quite probable for him to have finally brought his party, BJP, back into power. The Nation felt a surge of pride to once again have a voice that was heard loud and clear not only within but beyond the national borders. His speeches such as the one at the Madison Square Garden, NY, and the one on Teacher’s Day have been echoing all round the second-half of 2014.

Whether for his shining innings on the cricket field or for his crackling chemistry with Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma, he has been among those who not just buzzed but, ringed the media bells all round the year.

This was a strange one to have made it to the news this year as the news was the journalist himself! Renowned senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai found himself caught in a brawl at the Madison Square Garden, NY. The news was confirmed as well as discarded by the supporters and critics of Mr. Sardesai, respectively. His response to the incident, on twitter, also received mixed reactions.

She has been a leader in the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which is her second stint to public recognition. With BJP coming into power it was a year of achievement for her as well as she became the HRD Minister.

One of the leading contenders of the young brigade in Bollywood, she has been in the news for performance, style and also her IQ. It began with her announcement to retire from the popular fashion brand Satya Paul, earlier this year. This too, she did it in full style with her last project there being collaboration with Disney. Her collection by the name of ‘MonoPop’ features the Disney mascot ‘Mickey Mouse’ and his love interest, ‘Minnie Mouse’. Many celebrities have donned this funky collection of this design prodigy who is now known for her quirky prints and feminine drapes.

Making a comeback to news this year is our Indian boxer with a biopic made on her. Her story was portrayed on the silver screen by actor Priyanka Chopra. The life of this sportswoman was viewed by the public and she was unanimously applauded. She became the apple of media’s eye yet again by bagging gold at the Asian Games 2014.

The talented Ms. Padukone remained at the top of the press columns in the first half with her films such as Finding Fanny and Happy New Year. The controversy caught fire and remained the highlight for a while this year.
