The General category candidates would require 45% marks in best four subjects in Class 12 in 2012 instead of 60% marks that was the requirement in 2011.
While the eligibility for the OBC category is 40.5% and it’s 40% for the physically handicapped. Those who fall in the SC/ST categories must have passing marks in the school leaving examination.
There will be five merit lists for the five categories.
The test is tentatively scheduled to be held on 8th June, 2012. The sale and submission of forms will begin from May 21, 2012 and will go on till June 1, 2012 (tentatively).
“Of the 21 colleges who were part of CATE last year, Deshbandhu College (morning) has dropped out from this year’s list while Satyawati College (morning) has newly joined the list of CATE colleges,” says Tapan Basu, associate professor at the Department of English.
CATE is the entrance test for those seeking admission to BA (hons) English to colleges of Delhi University.
Elaborating on the pattern of the test, Basu says: “There’s no fixed syllabus for the test. We test a candidate’s inclination to literature studies, writing skill and ability to appreciate literary and non-literary texts.”
