CAT 2013 Statistics: Increase in test centres, women registrations

So the countdown has begun. With CAT 2013 barely 2 days away, we are sure that you are ready to roll! As is every year, 2013 has seen a series of changes in the number of CAT 2013 participants. So here’s a touchdown on who and what you will be competing against this year. 

 

About 19,600 vouchers were sold and a total of 19,4500 registrations took place this year. While online registration mode was introduced in 2013, regular applications were also allowed this year. Of the total number of applications received, about 65% is estimated to have been online applications only. The states which recorded the top numbers of CAT 2013 registrations were includes Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka.  CAT exam will be conducted in 76 centres across 40 cities. Last year, test centres were distributed over 36 cities. 

 

What’s interesting is the fact the percentage of women taking CAT 2013 has seen a significant increase. According to CAT officials and Prometric, over the last 2 years, women candidature has seen an overall growth of 29%. While there has been a 16% rise in overall applications with 2 or more years of work experience, applications by women with over 2 years of work experience has risen by 13%. And applications by candidates with little to no work experience have declined to 66%.

 

Students with backgrounds in technology/engineering continued to dominate at 70% of candidates, an increase of 6% from last year. Economics, management and science make up 23%. With the number of applications going up, IIM’s have added about 115 taking the total number of seats in IIM to 3,335 seats.

 

The maximum applications for CAT 2013 have been from technology/ engineering backgrounds, about 70%,which is an increase by 6% compared to CAT 2012. About 23% of the applications are from Economics, Science and management backgrounds and the rest are from academic backgrounds.
