There were a lot of takers of India’s most coveted MBA entrance exam - Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013, which started on October 16. There were about 1.94 lakhs registrations recorded this year, vying for 3,335 seats - an increase by 1500! Indian Institute of Managements (IIM’s) throughout India has increased the seats in various MBA programmes.
No wonder, on the first day of CAT 2013, aspirants looked quite optimistic about their chances of getting into a top grade school. The first day CAT 2013 takers as well as experts are of the opinion that CAT 2013 exam pattern was represented exactly the same way as predicted and there were no surprise elements to it. The difficulty level of the 1st CAT 2013 exam was rated to be between moderate and tough.
The only exception observed by experts was in the Quantitative Ability section, where there were more questions from Pure Mathematics and Algebra than Arithmetic. This made the Quantitative Ability section tougher than the rest of the sections.
The Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation section was harder than CAT 2012, but if you have prepared well, and solved considerable number of Mock Tests, you should be good. DI was average with focus on percentages & calculations. There were also a fair number of Venn diagrams, bar graph and tabular data problems in this section. In some of the papers though, some topics were missing like the Set Theory.
Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning was varied with everything ranging from para jumbles, incorrect usage of words, paragraph completion and unwanted sentences. It was easier than most mock exams usually. Reading comprehension and Logical Reasoning section was moderately predictable.
Word usage section and Fill in the Blanks section was relatively easy, as was the Reading Comprehension section.
While different set of CAT 2013 takers faced different question papers, on an average, most of the aspirants found the CAT 2013 exam paper no-so-difficult.
