'Book'ed for an English adventure

It is a fact unanimously accepted that we are all longing to escape the grinding turmoil that characterizes the human ‘race’.

The race starts abruptly catching us off guard. And before we know it, we are running.

In school some of us run after marks and others after popularity. (Bless those wicked souls who pursue them both!). As we grow up our priorities change-good college, nice car, high-paying job- but we never stop running.

I have been trying to come out victorious for the longest time and sometimes the hurdles that I have to overcome just drain me. I need a break.

Fortunately my escape is my salvation. I escape into the world of books; so far away that all the worries of life seem a distant dream. Books captivate me and help me explore the depths of my intellect. Hand me a book and I will devour it. No matter which author or what genre (though a tempting cover may bias me a bit).

And during this nerve splitting process called ‘College Admission’ the only thing keeping me sane is that I can fall back on my dependable collection of novels.

When my friends start discussing entrances or cut offs, I simply zone out and head into my dream world. I mean I have already written all exams, I can’t change the past, why ruin the present by continuously discussing such things.

I am presently considering turning my hobby into a career by applying for English honors at Delhi University. From engineering to English is a big, nay gigantic leap. I am already hearing voices of dissent- my parents, relatives and even my friends consider this an unwise move. They label it a passing infatuation. They tell me that things like following your heart only look good in movies and ironically books. And perhaps they are right. Perhaps reading has changed my way of thinking. But if it has, then it is only for the better. I can actually pursue something that I am utterly passionate about.

P.S-I can practically see the propagators of the ‘Do what you love’ philosophy shedding tears of joy at my epiphany.
