Annual sports meet at Guru Nanak Dev University, Jalandhar

 

 

Defying the chilly weather, the students of Guru Nanak Dev University, Jalandhar were eagerly waiting for Sports Meet started from January 28, 2015.

 

This Sports Meet was organised by members of ESS Committee of the college. The sports include Cricket, Football, Basketball, Carrom, Volleyball and Badminton. Various teams for each sport were made for both boys and girls with fascinating names (which you will know as you keep the track of this). After proper registration of each teams a final schedule was made for a for a week long event. The matches for each game have started and the winning teams keep on advancing into the semi-finals to be held from Monday. There maybe a little lack of proper playground facilities but there is no lag in the spirits of students of the college.

 

 

The inauguration was done by Mr. Kartar Singh who is a gold-medalist in Wrestling in Asian Games back in 1976. He is also a recipient of Padma Shri for his contribution to the sport and also to India's glory.

 

Starting with Cricket, the team being led by Shamsher Singh, ESS Sports Head, namely, Khadku Boys have a winning streak of two matches making them advancing to the semifinals. Shan-e-Punjab hailing from Amritsar.  They have won their first but faced a magnifying loss in the second. 

 

 

In football, Real Daddy Shakti FC, having students from B. Tech CSE third year, have both won and lost one and still struggle to make it through the semis. Talking about their win, they defeated PNB Team having the students from the same class, with a score of 2-1. While Titans United, team consisting of B. Tech CSE second year have won their match and also hope to win the next.  Gunners FC is the team from the same class which lost their first match.

 

Sadly, there wasn't a team by girls.
