The election fever is on at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus. University has seen a series of protests on campus since list of eligible candidates' contesting various posts of the students union (AMUSU). On Friday, students came to the street protesting the decision of rejecting the nomination papers of one of the presidential candidates-Mohd Hamza who hails from Gonda-Basti-Siddharthnagar (GBS) belt.
Tough completion is going on for the post of president. Five nominations were received out of which Leyaqat Khan, Mobashshir Jamal, Mohd. Ali Murtaza and Abdullah Azzam are found eligible by The Chief election officer Prof Naeem Ahmad Khan for the post.
Hamza, a medical student has been denied to stand due to lack of attendance required. But Hamza felt this is kind of unfair as his dean had given aggregate 75.4% attendance. According to him the final decision was taken to please the outside lobby of GBS. They are supporting their candidates.
Other candidates feel that injustice has happened to Hamza. AMU campus is facing a regionalism fall where everyone is using their own tactics to face this.
Nazeerul Hasan, a supporter of another presidential candidate, by protesting the process said to a leading daily that there should not be any democratic process if outsider will decide who should contest the election or not.
