Ambedkar University admission on for undergraduate programmes

With Delhi University’s sky rocketing cut-off’s, students have been deprived of their right to choose a course or college on their own. Instead, they are resorting to a ‘whatever comes my way’ policy, grabbing any and everything that is falling in their kitty.

That is sad. Education is supposed to make students rise, not compromise. Whether the high cut-offs in Delhi University will churn out better and smarter graduates or not (with the introduction of Four Year Undergraduate Programme), that is something that we are yet to see, but there is a saving grace for the students who were not able to break through the near impossible cut-off’s in Delhi University.

Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University or Ambedkar University (AUD), New Delhi as is popularly known has declared the first cut-off list for admission to undergraduate courses in Science, Arts & Commerce streams. Ambedkar University reserves 85% seats for students of Delhi domicile and the rest to out-station students. The cut-off for out-station students may also vary.

The average cut-off for a Science stream (for a student from Delhi) is anywhere between 86% and 93% depending upon the course. For Commerce, the cut-off stands at 87%-94% and for students from the Humanities stream, it is between 82% and 89%. For outstation candidates, however, the cutoffs are higher.

The total number of application received in 2013 is 6000, approximately six times higher compared to applications received in 2012. This when the total number of seats for undergraduate courses is 245 for seven courses!

The admission procedure of Ambedkar University will be on merit basis and students can change their choice of major during the course, subject to the availability of seats and fulfilling of the merit criteria.

Ambedkar University (AUD) follows a multiple-exit points system in its undergraduate courses. A student will have six disciplines to choose from: English, Economics, Mathematics, Sociology, Social Sciences and Psychology.
