The two year Post-Graduate Course in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM) offered by the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has been ranked number one worldwide for the second time.
French business school ranking agency, Eduniversal, rated the programme number one in agribusiness/food industry management global ranking.
IIM-A's programme, which aims to create managers for the emerging food, agribusiness, retail, microfinance, global supply chain and other allied sectors, claimed the top position after beating similar courses offered by the US, Europe and South American universities.
Paris-based ESSEC Business School landed the second spot while Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile came third.
Agri-business programmes offered by US-based universities Cornell University and University of California, Berkeley came fourth and fifth respectively, reported a leading daily.
"IIM-A has been offering a special package in Agriculture since 1974. In 2003, this programme was re-engineered as a PG programme in Agricultural Business Management," the institute said in a statement.
The PGP- ABM Programme has a unique component – the Rural Immersion Module which goes on for about four weeks in addition to the summer internship programme for eight weeks. As part of the module, students study the rural environment that affects agricultural business by living in a village.
