The National Service Scheme is a public service program sponsored by Government of India and conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. This scheme was launched in the year 1969, on the Centenary Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Lucknow Christian College has two units of NSS which not only render outstanding National Service but also help in character building. The NSS wings are under the leadership of : Patron (Principle) Dr. D.A. Harrison ; Program Officers : Dr. R.K. Mishra , Dr. N.S. Singh & Dr. Sudhakar Verma ; Members : Gurnam Singh, J.B Singh ,J.K Singh ,C.S. Daniel, D.D.S. Yadav , N.S. Sharma .
Activities at College Level:
Enrolment: The enrolment procedure was conducted in the month of June-July by the Program Officers and members of NSS.
Orientation program: After a large number of volunteer enrolments this year , the orientation program was organized by the Program Officers to explain them about the concept of social service, and teach them methods and skills required for achieving the objectives of the scheme
Classes: Classes were regularly held within the college premises to promote community education through meetings, talks, news bulletins, discussions etc and to help in formulating NSS programs which has a direct relationship with the academic curriculum.
National flag hoisting and plantation program: It is one of the annual activities of NSS along with the Independence Day Celebrations with honouring the freedom fighters and war veterans. Volunteers along with the Patron/Principal, Program Officers and Members planted Roystonea regia (Palm Tree) saplings in the college premises.
Cleanliness program: The volunteers organized a cleanliness camp which operated in the slums areas near the college.
Family welfare program: The NSS Unit promoted the need of a healthy and happy family through organizing a family welfare program.
Education program: The NSS units went on a education awareness program and also taught children who could not afford the education expenses
Traffic control program: The volunteers along with help of local police organized a traffic control & traffic rules awareness program near the Charbagh Railway Station and Kaiserbagh Bus Stop.
Book bank: The volunteers donated books on various areas and subjects to the N.S.S. Book Bank of the college and distributed to the poor children in need.
Maintenance program: The volunteers maintained and managed the cycle stand, N.S.S. Common Room, College Premises, and nearby area of the college.
Exhibitions: The volunteers organized NSS exhibitions and also demonstrated several street plays to promote social welfare.
Disaster relief: The volunteers organized a donation camp for sending required medicines and necessities to the State of Uttarakhand which got affected by flash floods in June 2013.
Aids day camp: The volunteers organized a camp on 1st December 2013 for making people aware of the AIDS disease.
Nss-poster exhibition: Posters made by the volunteers on social issues, were demonstrated in the exhibition.
Karmchari diwas: The fourth class employees of the colleges were awarded by the volunteers for their hard work.
Election awareness rally: A special street march was held on the streets of Lucknow during Lok Sabha Elections in May 2014 by the volunteers for creating awareness among the public to vote this time in the upcoming elections.
Drinking water arrangements: Various drinking water distribution camps were set up near the college area to provide people with cold drinking water in the hot weather conditions.
Tuition for students: The volunteers offered tuition to academically weak students.
Achievements of NSS Unit of Lucknow Christian College:
The NSS unit of Lucknow Christian College in discharge of their duties received various accolades. The volunteers who won the Outstanding N.S.S. Volunteer Trophy were Ankit Mishra , Deep Kashyap , Nilesh , Aman Chaturvedi.
