65 Out of Top 100 JEE Rankers Choose IIT Bombay

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is the most sought-after destination among the toppers of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2015.

The figures from the first round of seat allotment this year have revealed that 65 of the top 100 rankers in JEE (Advanced) 2015 have opted for seats in IIT-Bombay.

Retaining its position as the most preferred campus ahead of 17 other premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), IIT Bombay is surely a popular choice among students.

The second choice for students is IIT Delhi with 30 students of the top 100 opting for it. It is followed by IIT-Madras and IIT-Kanpur, with three and two students of the top 100 rankers, respectively.

IIT Kharagpur, which is one of the oldest IITs, has failed to get any students from the top 100 this year. Even IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati have not managed to get a single student from the top ranks.

Till a few years ago, the first choice of top rankers used to be IIT Kanpur. However, an analysis of students’ preferences over the last decade shows that IIT Bombay followed by IIT Delhi are the most popular choices among JEE toppers.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) announced the result for Round - 1 of seat allotment for admission to various IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs and other Government-Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) on 7th July, 2015.

Candidates have been allotted seats on the basis of category-wise All India Rank and preferences mentioned by them.
