‘Chinky’, ‘Momos’, do these words ring some bell? Yes, that’s how some of us treat our fellow countrymen from Northeastern states. We might praise Mary Kom or Baichung Bhutia but the northeastern who comes to North India either for education or for work do face a lot of discrimination within their own country. In fact some of us refuse to accept them as a part of India.

For most of the people here in North India there is no difference between Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. Still, these people have managed to make their mark in India and have fought the discrimination and condemnation with strong heart.

The government has taken various steps to protect the rights of Northeastern people. However, the situation is not so calamitous as it seems there are many instances of Northeastern blending greatly with North Indians.
