Waking up at 6 in the morning, getting ready and catching the bus was a struggle that we faced almost every day. However, we cannot deny that when we reached school, we would feel as refreshed as mint. At least most of us! The 8 classes a day that involved reading the text books, doing the class work, performing experiments in the lab, noting down the home work was the academic part of school life. There were other activities too that we were involved in, which made it a great experience for all of us. When you reflect now, you realize how these care-free days just passed by.
To take you back to the most cherished time of your life and in an attempt to bring a smile to your face, we bring to you a list of 5 NCERT books that our lives revolved around for more than a decade.
NCERT Hindi Books
Do you remember the 5-6 page long stories that were a bit too much to handle? They appeared boring as they hardly contained any pictures or illustrations that were interesting (or the ones that were there were not attractive at all). Hence, the length of the lessons scared each one of us even more.

And how can we forget the never ending list of ‘Paryayvachi shabd’ (Synonyms), ‘Vilom shabd’ (Antonyms), ‘Muhavare’ (Idioms) etc. Did you not prepare them first so that you could at least pass in the test basis the scoring ‘Vyakran’ (grammar) questions?
NCERT Maths Books
The thickest book of the lot that contained ‘problems’ in bulk was the NCERT maths book. Finding solutions to these problems was a serious task in school days. Many of us dreaded the subject so much, that opening the NCERT maths book felt like diving into a pool of jigsaw puzzles!
It was one such subject, that we thought only the extra ordinary could enjoy.

Remember how difficult it was to master topics like Mensuration, Matrices, Integers, Geometry, Trigonometry, Decimals, Integration, Differentiation? And the number of hours you spent practicing questions on it and cross checking them from the NCERT solutions page at the end of the book?
NCERT SST Books
SST or Social Studies was fun till the time it was limited to a better and simpler version of it, namely EVS or Environmental Studies. As we grew up, we discovered that SST was not one subject, but consisted of 4 parts- Geography, Civics, History, and Disaster Management.

The most scoring subject of all, SST was the easiest hurdle that we had to conquer in order to improve our overall grades! Don’t you agree?
NCERT Science Books
The experiments and stories of Boojho and Paheli filled the entire NCERT science books. Covering topics from the science streams such as physics, chemistry and biology, this book was full of facts, theories and principles.

A special section containing questions based on H.O.T.S or High Order Thinking Skills were interesting as well as knowledgeable! Or maybe not!
NCERT English Books
The sleekest book of the set was that of English literature. It was always there in the school bag even if there was no scheduled class for it. From stories by Shakespeare to Sarojini Naidu, the English text book was something that we looked forward to reading.

Although the grammar topics and the writing skills section were a bit tricky sometimes, we managed it pretty well!
With technology taking up the world at a fast pace, you can now find the online NCERT books versions too! Had it been the same at our time, we wouldn’t have been able to make excuses for not doing our homework because we left our books in the school in our respective desks!
Whatever we may say, school days were the most memorable time of our lives. We made a bunch of good friends, indulged in fun activities, participated in events and annual cultural programmes, developed a sense of passion towards something or the other. Moreover, we shall not forget that we owe it all to our school for the kind of person we are today!
