Out of 9.20 lakh candidates who took the Central Teacher Eligibility Test 2013 (CTET 2013), around 11% have passed the exam.
The results of CTET July 2013 exam were declared on Monday, 2nd September 2013.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test, which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has been made compulsory for candidates who aspire to become teachers of Classes I to VIII in any central government school.
This is for the first time the pass percentage for CTET has crossed the 10% mark following a continuous dip in performance, reports a leading daily.
"Probably candidates have understood the pattern better after the initial attempts. Probably they are better prepared. But we are happy that more candidates have managed to clear the test despite the difficulty level being maintained," CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said.
Last year, less than 1% of the aspirants managed to pass CTET 2012 (December). In wake of the poor performance, educationists raised an alarm over the quality of B.Ed degree being provided in India.
The human resource development ministry introduced CTET in 2011 in order to improve teaching quality in schools.
Schools affiliated to CBSE can either recruit teachers on the basis of CTET or the respective test carried out by states. The Delhi government has decided to recruit teachers for government-run and aided schools on the basis of CTET. To be eligible for CTET, applicants need to have a B.Ed degree.
