What is M.E / M.Tech?

M.E/M. Tech Course: In the post-independence era, India invested heavily in creating a literate society that can catapult it from crises to leadership roles in industry and economics. As such, the education landscape saw a flurry of technical institutes that in conjunction with conventional institutes imparted engineering education to churn out professionals with creative, innovative and problem-solving mindset. Institutes offering degrees in other disciplines along with engineering termed their postgraduate programmes as ME, which stands for Master of Engineering. On the contrary, the newly established institutes with engineering as their sole core competency preferred calling their postgraduate programmes as Master of Technology, or simply M. Tech. The trend continues to date.

Terminology being the only distinguisher, M.E. and M. Tech programmes are more or less same in terms of curriculum, industry interface and scope. M.E/M. Tech programmes render an in-depth subjective knowledge about the specific subject and supplement it with practical insights. Furthermore, both programmes are supposed to help the pursuant cultivate systematic thinking, reasoning and practical approach – traits essential for academic growth and career success. The other mutual element across the courses is their ability to help the pursuant gain ways to practically implement the knowledge and deliver tangible outcomes.

Seemingly, M.E/M. Tech Course attracts a deluge of students seeking specialised knowledge in a particular field.

That said, there is no dearth of students who prefer making a shift from a technical domain to the managerial domain in search of generalisation, holistic knowledge and career avenues in fields other than engineering. As such, most B. Tech students have to face the dilemma of making the choice between M.E/M. Tech Course and MBA. It is essentially a tussle between generalisation and specialised knowledge but personal preferences and inclinations have a key role to play as well. We are not getting into what an MBA degree can offer but rather like to focus on what an M. Tech degree has in store for you. So go on reading and get enlightened.
